Lawrence and Jon ORDed on Tuesday. Congratulations and all the best to them!
Today is CO's last day before leaving to become the ADA to Washington. Lucky fella, but I won't miss him. Yesterday he gave us a breakfast 'treat' of Macnonalds, but I think S1 told me he will claim it back from Mindef. Plain Cheapskate. It was quite funny when the delivery man took a cab to our unit because of the sheer size of the order. And funnier still when he forgot to bring the creamer for the beverages.
Wah lao, going to cookhouse these few days really sucks, 'cos it's always raining or drizzling. And yesterday's lunch was hor fun - horrible. The kway teow had a stench of the sewers! Really smelled a bit like shit. Didn't eat it in the end.
Was on the way home yesterday evening after gym. On the 190, I was sitting beside this auntie, prob in her 30s. Ok it's a bit of a paradox, maybe she's older lah. But anyway, at the stop before mine, I was getting ready to get down, and she was also preparing to make way for me, which is usual. But when I got to my stop, she seemed to preempt that perfectly, bouncing out of her seat before i managed to finish saying excuse me, and gave me an overly-sweet smile. Was I freaked out!
Just went to cut my hair, i told the uncle not to trim the fringes too much, and he did exactly the opposite. :(
The weather is bad.. couldn't go for a swim this morning 'cos it was like drizzling sporadically, and when it isn't rainy, it's still so cold!

Was on half day yesterday. Decided to go for lunch cos the menu said 'hor fun set', but the cookhouse faked us --- and gave us spaghetti instead. Woohoo!
Saw Fong Fei Fei on Dageda before going for a run. Saw sec discipline master Jeffery Lim while running pass cck park.
There is an amusing sign 'Beware of falling durians' on the boundaries of the park. I am really curious as to whether there are durain trees there. Heh. I love durians.

I finally realised why Joi's 'Yu Sheng Ju Lai' appealed to my aural senses so much. 933 deejay li yi triggered my memory when she made a comparison between the style of this song and the Carpenters. And I love the Carpenters. I remember when I was in Perth for my annual camp in 2000, I was left with 5 bucks on the last 5 hours before the flight home, and I was actually contemplating giving up dinner to buy a Carpenters' cd. Well, I happen to love food too. :p

The tap in the pantry suffers from incontinence. It has probably wasted enough water to fill up a small swimming pool.
And so I am feeling a bit giddy now cos of a lack of sleep last night, and the day before. I barely slept for 2 hours after getting home on Sunday morning before i went out for the whole day.
Reached Heeren slightly early with my family, so we browsed a bit at hmv. I am actually thinking of getting Maksim's newest album, if only it isn't so expensive. Had rosti, pizza, ham and cheese crepe, fried rice, calamari and ice cream waffle at marche. Then after being so full, they decided to take a walk to Killiney's Kopitiam two streets away, stopping over at John Little for quite a while. But the kopitiam was just too crowded to accommodate the 6 of us, so we walked all the way to the national youth center for tea.
Then when it stopped drizzling, we went to Cineleisure for a while. In the lift, there was this group of three very blatantly bitchy macho marys, and when I saw that my aunt could barely suppress her laughter, we established eye contact and just burst out laughing as the doors opened and they went out.
Then I took the northsouth line to tanjong pagar to catch my recital. The first half was dominated by Shen Qing, a young erhu player from Jiangsu, China. I didn't think she communicated very well with the audience. But her skills are undeniably good. There was a solo by the konghou, the Chinese harp, and it was the first ever of its type I've heard. It was intriguing. I fell asleep during the last song, Han Gong Qiu Yue. Those in the know will understand why. :P
After that I half rushed out of the concert hall, to the mrt station, and then i reached commonwealth mrt station at a super early time of 7:05pm. When I was supposed to meet yl and jason at holland v only at 8pm! I was hoping to have to wait a long time for the 970, which unfortunately, arrived just 10 seconds after I reached the bus stop.
Bus 'Fun' Fact 5
The bus that you don't want always arrives very fast.
In the end Jason pang seh, so we ended up at this Hong Kong eatery. The food sucked. Don't go to Central Restaurant at Holland V. Then we went to NYDC for dessert, had the classic Orea cheesecake. Somehow, I felt that the oreo cookies didn't bring out the cheesecake's flavor, it was just there. We had a good tete a tete over dessert. And the next time I have to try the North Indian restaurant, bcos the waitress was so nice when we rejected her offer to eat there.

Wooo~ what did i do today in camp?
played scrabble, played bridge, watched a few episodes of 'shao nian yue tuan', this crappy taiwanese show where pple find other camouflaged pple, played hide-and-seek with a cat and her two kittens outside, watered the plants, watched matchstick men, and did some light weights.
received news of another Hsinghai concert coming up on 23jan, smack at the right time before chinese new year when the O-R-D mood starts building up. :P
and of course i did all my work too.
oh, and the twist in matchstick men is very commendable! I was just getting sick of Nicholas Cage's delirious tone throughout most of the movie when it made me glad I watched it after all.
_______
catching up with my folks at marche tmr.. yay. and following that is the SCO recital at the Singapore Conference Hall. looking forward to it.
my sec 2 tutee got 72 for her E-O-Y science exam. i asked her 'how was it?' and she said 'quite okay'. *shrugs* she could have done better.. if i pushed her more. ah, the mixed feelings of a teacher during this period. on the other hand, my sec 4 boy got better than expected for his prelims - 2 for both maths and a 3 for science. i am so worried he's gonna be complacent and screw the papers that matter.
last nite received a surprise call from a fren's brother who just finished his promos and was seeking advice on what s papers to take. this boy is going to be a contender for the a*star scholarships next year so i ended up talking loads about my own experiences. it feels good when other pple benefit from your words, even if only apparently. :p

Bus Incident
Lenard and weiyang junior were sitting side by side on the seat that is parallel to the bus's length. I was sitting opposite them. Usually these seats, though designed for 3 bums, can only hold 2 comfortably. Then suddenly this bespectacled Malay lady, probably in her mid twenties, with somewhat rather chic office wear, suddenly decided to plant herself in between the two of them, shoulders rubbing shoulders. And all 3 sat there, not so comfy. Hahaha
We couldn't help but almost burst out laughing. Everyone probably thought we were mad. I wonder how thick her skin is. :P

MAIA IS OUT?!
Couldn't believe it when I saw sq's msn nick at first, 'cos I always assumed, in my humble opinion, that Olinda, Slyvester and Maia would make it to the top 3.
Leandra should have been out, 'cos she sang the worst that day.

Yay.. CO is leaving at the end of the month. Being the cheapskate he is, he suggested having a breakfast as a farewell event, and being the cheapskate he is, he suggested Macdonalds. And being the cheapskate he is, he will foot the bill first, and then claim it back from our Welfare fund.
Have been watching this rather crappy show, The champions, on Channel 8 the past two days, 'cos my tutee was having tennis matches everyday. I don't like Ou Xuan's hairstyle! Look so plain-jane like that..
Hmmm, louis is going for a minor operation on tuesday. my father's op is next month. it's a pretty major one, as they have to remove this large lump from behind his oral cavity. Hmmmmmmmm.

Now it's compulsory for us to consume lunch at the cookhouse, which is 3 bus stops and more than 1km away, just because we have to SCAN our 11b at some stupid machine to indicate that we went to the cookhouse.
The way to get people to happily go to the cookhouse is to serve better and more consistent food, not waste the money that could be spent on that to get such machines.
So before it started last Friday, I made sure I went out everyday for lunch the two days before. Once was the 3.50 mixed vegetable rice buffet at Macpherson, the other was chicken rice at ubi courtesy of joel's bmw.

Cheryl Fox was cleared of drug abuse. But then my mom said something to the effect of 'there's no smoke without fire'. Perhaps she was just lucky this time round..
Recently someone recommended this new Taiwanese singer, Liu Zhong Yi, to me. His songs are not bad. I think I've heard 'Hou Bu Lian Ren' on FM933 before.
You can get his songs from here. But I wonder if downloading this 10 songs are considered downloading files 'illegally on a commercial scale'.
Hmmmmmmmm, I am of the opinion that they can't catch everyone. For now that is.
Does that mean I can't bring my burnt mp3s to the US next year? :(

I'm putting up a link to my old blog layout, 'cos i really liked it.
It will appear somewhere soon.
I suddenly recalled something:
Bus 'Fun' Fact 1:
12 people can squeeze in the area near the front door, just before the first seat, which measures no more than 1 square meter, yes, including the steps. I was one of them.
Bus 'Fun' Fact 2:
The engine of the tibs bendy bus can be so weak that a grossly overloaded 190 can barely climb up the hilly part of the PIE near Bukit Timah at a sluggish 20km/h. The driver shrugged it off with a weak smile at me, as impatient cars starting overtaking from the right.
Bus 'Fun' Fact 3:
The bus that you're waiting for will inevitably appear on the wrong side of road before it does on your side.
Bus 'Fun' Fact 4:
Bus drivers find it fun to drive pass bus stops without stopping, especially if the bus is full at the front, but empty at the back, or if there's already a bus at the bus stop.

Man i just heard from my mother how my brother scored highest for all three sciences in the level for his recent promos. Freaking freaky is all I could say. Like what.. how many people actually do better in physics and chemistry than the universally-accepted-as-easier--to-score-subject Maths? *shakes head* Haha, no, I am proud of him. Just a bit freaked out.
His recent rush to complete his SRP report reminded me of my own 'hell week' in j1, and it was AFTER the promos. Had to complete the report, as well as study for the biology olympiad, while everyone else played sport. Aiyayai.
Anyway, good luck for your 3 olympiads coming up bro. :P

I am changing my blog layout soon. With the things I have been through recently, this somewhat surreal utopia-like environment of a blogskin doesn't hold water anymore. I can't just fly away from everything that is not with My flow, everything that I ain't happy with, everything that I want to change. I have to move on, and accept that, while I may change in a certain direction, other people change in different directions, and there will come a point when people who used to share the same dreams, same ideas, same thoughts as I did, will someday diverge in their paths from mine.
But it does not necessarily mean that the 'childish' theme will be gone.. :p

Shucks, i forgot to get the tix for this Sunday's recital. Damn, must rem to pop by the sistic at lot one later.
And I am getting really irritated with the aunties in my office (with all due respect to the toilet cleaner lady, who is definitely not just an 'auntie' in my eyes; in fact, she's the only lady in the unit i bother to greet!) I can't believe this A&K peeve actually made it to my blog, it's an absolute waste of time fretting over such people, but I just needed to get some things off my chest without getting charged for 'insubordination', a word they like to throw around without using their brains. Oh, I forgot they don't have brains. Pardon me.
Peace.

Back in office for the whole week! Can you imagine working 6.5 days straight with no rest and recreation in between as some kind of a incentive? Monday to Sunday morning..it's gonna be a loong 68-hour week.
I need sleep. They should ban people from blasting the Singapore Workout tune at the community center at 8am in the morning!! On a SUNDAY morning! The music wasn't so bad, the crowd leader was terrible. I can't imagine how anyone could have been inspired by her to work out on a sunny Sunday morning perfect for snoozing till 9 plus, and as a result I only slept 8 hours..barely even. Had my first practice in ages at the ACS music studio, without air con again. I take it as training my heat resistance. :p
Spent the bulk of yesterday at West Coast Entertainment Center, this rather old and shabby looking place in the heart of Clementi. My uncle was kind enough to treat us all to seafood, which was really quite commendable, for a new restaurant. And he topped it up with some bowling games upstairs too. Had a smashing time. I averaged 109 for 3 games, not bad for a beginner ok!

... Then the main event of Sat came - Euphoria 04! Although the thousands of people who
attended probably were not too euphoric about it. And I almost had 4 blisters on my feet.
Met Louis, Kenny, Aiyun and Charlotte at City Hall. As ay was late, I went in search for a
nice card for yl with louis first. Then we decided to put our stuff in William's car first,
then we met the rest at Star Bucks. And then someone had to leave all the tickets in the
car. What has NS done to all of us?! So I went down to the car with louis to get them.
Forgot which floor, dunno how to open the boot, argh all kinds of crap popped up along the
way. So finally we got to walking to the Padang.
To quote W, there was an invisible band playing when we got there. And it was supposed to
start half an hour ago! Haha.. and a police officer actually asked ay whether she had a gun
inside her bag! Haha.. can't they ask that of someone who looks much less harmless than her?
Just imagine ay in milla jovovich's shoes in RE2.. cannot imagine right?
The emcees did little to stir up the crowd. And out of so many promising acts like MLTR, All
For One and Machi, they had to get this British deejay to play for 2 hours first! Who in the
world dances at 5:30pm before dinner? Haha, other than this daring,
visually-not-so-appealing lady.. who many were secretly laughing at. :d SO, we left for
dinner. But then this Thai place we were supposed to go just after Raffles hotel was closed,
unfortunately. But having already walked all the way there, we decided to eat somewhere
near...and ended up at the food street at Bugis. Ate at some average Taiwanese eatery called
'Lai Lai', and we decided we will tell everyone to 'Qu Qu' after that. Then we adjourned to
Ah Chew's Desserts. Had some very average Ginko Nut with Beancurd Skin and Barley. The
Chinese waitress couldn't even speak Chinese! How to serve good Chinese dessert? Then we walked all the way back to the padang, and after catching Shinwa, All4One and Palmy we adjourned to Max Brenna at the Esplanade. And their service sucks. But the chocolate was good. And I saw a gigolo with his client, which really gave me the creeps. Eeew. And a big group of gays. *shrugs* There're all kinds of people huh.
Woke up late on Sunday, met ay at Suntec to get the card from her, and then met yl at raffles place. Saw her god-brother, then paul picked us up from fullerton in his mercedes kompressor. And we saw like, 10 Evos in the fullerton car park? Talk about extravagance. So we went to the Teahouse at China Square. The dimsum buffet was very average, the variety was quite poor, but nonetheless, we ended up so full. So we had to go for a walk. Made a round around Cecil and Cross streets, and the whole place was like the aftermath of resident evil, so we decided to drive to somewhere more lively.. and ended up at marina south, or rather, the wrong side of it. The esplanade side, that is. There was a very dull function going on, at first we thought it was an auction, walking closer we realised why. It was the "Kampong Glam CC Photography Competition". Urgh. How exciting. I really miss just wasting a day away enjoying the sea breeze.. the last time was with the people from johns hopkins! Anyway, think kenny's organising a bbq at sentosa, seriously speaking, i can't wait. Saw some blood stains on the pavement, a gang fight in broad daylight, or a cat fight? Hmm. Then went to this very cheap cd shop at Pearl's Center in Chinatown. Got Fish Leong's latest album, Yan Wei Die, for just 6.5 bucks! The wonders of parallel imports.. and just now I went there again to get Joi's Ri Chu 'cos it was out of stock on Sunday. 14 bucks only!
was lazy to go to the gym today, so i did a modified cardio work out at home, which utilised my trusty skipping rope, the cycling machine and the what's-that-called? Oh yeaa, the PowerRider. Hehe. No more excuses tomorrow.

10.10.04
Just reached home.. damn tired now. It's been another busy week, it's like I hardly have the time to catch my breath before the next activity knocks on the door. Phew. At least the fact that I am on night duty tomorrow leaves some private time for myself to catch my breath and reflect on the week's activities..
Hmmm, I've been slacking in terms of working out this week. After Sunday duty, I was so shack that I didn't feel like gymming on Monday, so I went for a run instead. Or did I? Oh no, I didn't. I stayed home and did something I was quite proud of: prepared and cooked dinner all by myself!! Haha, of course mom 'raided' the refrigerator for me la, so I didn't have to worry about the menu. And of COURSE it tasted good. You didn't have to ask. But I do appreciate how tiring it is to prepare a meal.. everyday some more. Those who have home-cooked meals - be more appreciative.
Tue flew by, tuition and all. Wed was duty day again, and this time I went swimming for the first time in a long time since the lunar seventh month and my bout of flu after that. And I watched 13 going on 30, courtesy of Jon. Haha.
Thursday was the day i was supposed to go gym but went jogging instead. It was st's b'dae and I went down to the southern part of Singapore again to wish her happy birthday. Haha, some of them bought a white bear for her and I think it's pretty cute. The handwritten scroll saying "I LUV BOOKS!" was damn apt, but I still think Alvin's "BOOKS ARE MY LIFE!" sounds more original. Ooops.. don't kill me pls. Missed Sg idol cos of tuition. Anyway it's about time David Yeo got out. Although I think Christopher should have been booted out first (the week before at least!)
I can't remember what happened on Friday. I worked.
Then it was Sat. I actually watched the second round of the US presidential debate while eating breakfast, 'cos my father was watching it. Watched some back-dated 'Big Brother Big'. :D Maksim is damn zai on the piano la. I think he hit a tempo of 190 for a certain part of Rachmaninov's Flight of a Bumble Bee.. *woot*
Then realising it was late I rushed out.. [tbc] Sorry ah william. haha. sleepy liao. tmr then continue la.

Mmmmmmmm, just had a mean meal of chicken cup noodles and instant whipped potato. Haha. Food always taste better when you're hungry in the middle of the night.
'In the middle of the na-a-ight...when you're walking in your slee-e-p..'
Could just manage to finish Mona Lisa Smile before bedtime just now..'cos the cancer charity show was distracting me sometimes. And dinner was quite good too. Will have to leave mean girls and 13 to later.
Anyway, Mona Lisa Smile is a show I would gladly pay 8.50 to watch. It's a pretty subtle yet effective satire on the upper echelons of the American society in the 1950s. With a heavy stereotyping of ladies as wives in the context of the story, Julia Roberts as a Californian Bohemian ends up chastising the most prestigious and conservative college in the country, which draws the smartest girls, for being merely a 'finishing school' where girls bide their time before being 'eventually proposed to' and married, to 'fulfill the roles they were born to fill'. And the fact that many of her girls still chose to put marriage before graduate school only shows how deep-seated this tradition was.
Nowadays..it's probably inconceivable that a girl would choose graduate school over marriage or even vice versa. They would probably want to choose both. :p Which isn't really a bad idea. But it's hard translating it to reality. Just look at Singapore.

Shack ah. Now on freaking Sunday duty, with absolutely nothing to do! Just watched 'Gothika' this morning. I found it pretty average, although it did seem rather promising when I almost wanted to watch it a few months ago. The plot was rather predictable, and the twist, although stomach-churning, was pretty much just that, nothing ingenious or extraordinary.
And the worst thing? There probably are such sickos in the world out there, people who hold respectable positions in society, but have immoral habits like preying on unsuspecting children.
It was a wacky saturday with william hung et al. After giving tuition to the ny girl, had a very full lunch of wanton mee that my mom whipped up. Mmmmmmmmm....
The roads were surprisingly empty for a Sat afternoon, maybe it's 'cos I left too early at 2. Reached ps early, walked one round and ended up at this bookstore. 20% off all fiction titles! Didn't see anything that caught my eye though.
Saw Will with Kenny on the last floor, then we met Parry and Louis and bitched a little before finally adjourning to the theatre. Milla Jovovich is damn hot la. But she's quite skinny. As I didn't watch part one of the series, it was good that Resident Evil 2 kindly included a short recap of what happened in episode 1. Well, actually I think there's gonna be a part 3.. because of the ending which was quite disappointing. Although the cast was hot, the storyline was a bit stretched thin. As in, there wasn't very much to the plot, other than zombies scaring all the normal people throughout most of the show. However, the impact of the potential of such lethal a bioweapon did hit me, and I found myself questioning if the way the government handled the accidental release of such a bioweapon into society is a choice that actually would be considered in the real world. Which is really quite scary. Imagine using a nuclear bomb to 'cleanse' the whole city and covering it
up as a Chernobyl-style nuclear accident; it's just plain scary, and wrong, if I may add.
It was quite entertaining anyhow, I can't deny I enjoyed the 101 ways to kill a zombie.
After that we had to cross the road the Parkmall 'cos Parry parked there, and some tai-tai was adamant that it was such a loOong distance to traverse. *rolls eyes* We drove to the Paragon with his expert guidance, detailed to which parking lot to park in (the 7-box area).
Jalan-jalan to Heeren, where I saw Gerald and Matthew with his gf, then jalan some more to taka, crapping all the way, esp. on the topic of where to eat. Finally decided for Scotts. The North Indian mixed grille was not bad. After which we sauntered back to Paragon to have dessert at Spagghedies. Second time I savored the Italian chocolate cake, which was still as good as before. After which parry dropped us at will's place, after getting paris hilton he kindly drove all of us home. And I forgot to pay him for the movie! Paiseh sia..
And I am so going to be screwed tmr morning when I go home, cos i left paris hilton lying around..argh. Somebody save me.
Going to finish Mona Lisa Smile now..maybe 13goingon30 if I can make it..
