it's kinda refreshing that jim's not around for most of this week as he's shifting to the hillside. hmm, i'm pretty bored this week with nothing much to look forward to except perhaps the matrix reloaded this weekend..yes i haven't watched it yet. haha, hmmm, got a cramp during training yesterday..really unfortunate but that's just what had already happened..so get over it man!
hmm..watson & company is going to pass out in less than 2 weeks! wish him all the best..hope he gets the vocation he wants (which I have not had the chance to ask him yet)..wonder how's the rest doing; poor rod got ooc from ocs..de to an old injury i think, what a pity..and now devin's slogging it out (or having fun? i dunno..) in queensland, australia. haha..still can't really believe that he actually signed on as a pilot. oh well, people do make surprising decisions sometimes, but it may be for the better after all, if you really think about it.
tuition again this sunday..actually i'm getting pretty bored of giving tuition nowadays..and i've only given it for like two months! haha..i mean, the money's one thing (who couldn't do with more cash?) but the satisfaction is another..i'd rather teach a really enthusiastic student who actively participates in the learning process than someone who quietly absorbs like a sponge, or worse still..does not bother to show a wee bit of faked interest in the session..well..my cases haven't gotten as bad as the latter but sometimes i really doubt if what i teach them actually helps them at all..and that's depressing..at least if i had some kind of feedback, be it positive or negative, it would do both of us good..i could improve on my style and the student would eventually benefit..or he could respond well to the current style and be responsible, therefore, for his own increase in understanding or interest in the subject. I've always believed that it is possible to develop interest in a subject, albeit for a limited period of time..but that's better than nothing, considering that most people study subjects for the sake of fufilling minimum educational requirements and getting the all-important pape qualification, which doesn't exactly require a protracted (or real) interest in the subject anyway..take for example literature during my sec 2 yr..i have consistently performed badly for it..averaging b3s or at most a2 throughout the year..and it was in the last crucial fortnight before the final exam that i decided that i had to like it to do well in it, so there goes, two weeks of really appreciating it to a certain extent, though not great by the standards of a true literature student, but it was enough; enough to scrap through an a1, which was all that was necessary for me. haha. talk about bending the system.

Hi..haven't blogged in a while..this week's kinda tiring cos i've been running 2.4km everyday for the past 3 days! (plus the endless 'workload'...) and the argument with my mum on tuesday didn't make things any better..sigh at least it's over now
i'm taking half day off today..i may go swimming later to wind down a bit..Hmm today jimmy was supposed to treat us to lunch (hay mee) but then it was cancelled bcos of my half day and tim's refusal to go for lunch =) well..it was a gd excuse for jimmy to postpone the treat yet again (haha~)
today jim talked abt sending me for indonesian classes..haha i think that's cool..free 3rd language lessons don't come everyday u know..but that would mean an additional workload for me though..heh shan't elaborate on that though
today's lunch is half-western..don't know whether to be happy or not..seeya

heya,
it's the monday blues again...it's an inexplicable feeling that you get when you realise that you have a whole week ahead of you..especially when nowadays I've no particular aim in life except to serve it out and disappear. And the worst thing is we all got reprimanded by Angie..now we have to stand by bunk every morning...in addition to having to report earlier for duty..sigh

Hey i'm on duty again!
Haha..kinda cranky now..sian lar all my 79 classmates are in town watching the matrix reloaded now...and here i am stuck in a corner of singapore which is served by 2 pathetic bus services...hahaha
haizz....and my other unit mates are enjoying themselves at east coast in some chalet....heard they went kayaking this afternoon and it was beautiful weather for that too! sigh...missed a chance at tanning..haha
went out with some frens on vesak day..nothing much just ate and talked..went borders for a while after that, read a pretty literature bk (a few chapters). it had a captivating style...as in the narrator was a teenage girl who had just passed away in the story and had a heaven's perspective on all mortal events happening on earth (mainly revolving around her previous life), as if she were there witnessing everything as if she were alive...at first glance it shld appear odd to the reader, but the author made it so seamless, as if it was only natural for dead pple to narrate happenings on earth to other mortals..=)
hmm..we were supposed to go kayaking on vesak day itself...but bcos of the lack of response (as usual..the 79 "spirit" :p)..it was called off last minute..and that's how the few pathetic souls ended up in some corner of orchard watching the world go by...but all the girls are seemingly so busy...working lar, giving tuition..can't really blame them also..
just smsed a bit with an old pri sch classmate, wanling..glad she's still doing fine despite working under stressful conditions in tan tock seng hospital..(don't worry lah, she's in admin only!) ...haha in fact i even met her at the mrt a few weeks ago...hahaha still remembered how considerate she was that the first thing she asked me after calling out my name was "are u comfortable speaking to me?...i work at ttsh" *smiles* well she seemed quite tired nowadays from her smses...hope she'll take care and not stress herself out over her tutees' exams!

hmm time to slack again...well i gave 4 hours of tuition in the afternoon at one go~ sheesh..it was quite draining but then again it was quite satisfying teaching someone and seeing that it really made a difference to them...which makes one wonder why i didn't pursue the moe teaching scholarship in the first place..well for various reasons:
i have already accepted the A*STAR scholarship ( i dun wanna pay 1000 bucks to them!)
i prefer research to teaching ( this is from my heart)
i like teaching pple who're interested in learning only ( which is hardly the case if i became a regular teacher; you can't choose ur students!)
yeah..anyway i was pretty glad that daniel showed quite abit of enthusiasm for the session, considering the first time jitters that are bound to stifle some spontaneity in the most gregarious of students...he even asked me whether i play basketball at the end, which unfortunately i don't..
it was the same for my cousins who were in the next tuition session...this time it was chem, my pet subject..huihui was so drowsy at first..it's the first time she fell asleep during my session..haha but she was alright after washing her face and having some lemon tea..and zhiwen was markedly more upbeat yesterday too..dunno why also, but it's gd for all of us! =)
well..basically u can see that's the highlight of my pretty sad weekend...but at least it was restful!

Heya, it's me on night duty again...and it's pretty sian..though not as bad as usual...(at least not yet)
Hahaa..u shld have figured out by now that I blog only when on duty...i.e. when i am sian lar
Hmmm...what happened since friday..well i was on long weekend last weekend..plus this morning (mon) i was lazing at home before coming for duty..it was a realllly lazy weekend...i went swimming on saturday afternoon after wasting the morning away (man i can't even recall what i did on sat morning!) haha whatever..
hmm...then sat evening was spent preparing for my first a maths tuition for sunday! gee...the syllabus has changed quite a bit and it was tough trying to read thru everything (cos Daniel asked for a general revision as his mid yrs' coming in a matter of a week) Figuring i couldn't finish all the stuff (plus new topics like matrices and relative velocity), i smsed him and asked for a particular topic which he really needed drastic help in..and thankfully he said Logarithms and Binomial...and i was like Yay!! Haha..relatively simple topics...and binomial was my favourite some more..well...so sat was gone in a flash like that...brb

Harlow, it's long weekend for me!! Hurray...=)
Well..it's been a loong week..and at last i can access the Net from my home again...i installed windows ME on this cranky laptop of mine on monday..then the xircom card acted up! Luckily my friend warned me abt incompatibility with ME, and advised me to check the modem's website...and true enough I had to disable the network portion of the card before it works..sigh talk abt illiteracy..oh well
Hmm, i subscribed to National Geographic for another year two days ago; it's a good magazine; i used to read it more to improve my GP haha...but then it's really so good i even read the advertisements! all very meaningful..at least to me esp the Shell one. =)
How shld i spend my weekend?
Oh it's mother's day on sunday...and i only bought her a card today..and she knew too! haha..too bad she had to fetch me from my camp today..couldn't fake a reason to drop by coro plaza for nothing..so decided to come frank with her abt my tight schedule and blah blah..so paiseh
It's been 11 days without SARS..i really hope this persists for 9 more days and we'll be declared SARS-free!! Hmm, did anyone ever ask what happens if u get a new SARS case right after the WHO has declared ur country SARS free? *touch-wood*
Sigh...i'm getting my broadband connection coming Tuesday...at least that's what Singnet promised..we''ll see
gdnite!

Lunch was good today; we had western. Kinda boring week..cos i've no duty this week (but i've 2 next week! *sigh* but that's for next week to worry about :p)
Hmm..i met my ex-79 classmate Devin yesterday..OCT P F Lee looks real suave with his 2 white bars =) It's good for him and i'm happy that he got into OCS 'cos it'll be a big morale-booster for him, which i figure will do him much good in the long term. Imagine the surprise i got when he suddenly smsed me yesterday afternoon saying he is at the air force school now when i thought he was still slogging it out at OCS! Haha..he actually signed on as a pilot! Keke..he will be leaving for Australia soon for training..hope he passes the test and gets to complete the pilot course, then i won't be so bored here in plab..=)

talking abt interviews...for the number of interviews i have been invited to since last Oct..lemme count..errr
- one by 5 imperial college's alumni for the outstanding science student award (which righttfully went to cai shan..wonder how she's doing..could u imagine attending the Nobel Prize Presentation Ceremony for 2002??? Yah she was there man...lucky gal..haha but she deserved it cos she had sooo many allocades under her name..)
- 3 for the Singapore Technologies International Scholarship [which i didn't get..=)]
- 4 for the National Science Scholarship [which i got haha..]
- 2 for DSTA's [which i rejected..man it sure feels bad..leslie accepted it btw]
- 2 for PSA's [which i have given up hope for and totally lost interest in anyway]
- one for my current NS unit (hahaha..hardly qualifies as an interview though..but don't tell my bosses)
- one audition for the SAF Music and Drama company...which i got through but was subsequently not posted there...don't ask me why!! i also dunno..but life's gd as it is..and i'm not complaining whatsoever
hmmm that makes a grand total of 14 interviews!! (plus the latest nus one..15)
haha, pales in comparison to the 20 interviews attended by Shireen goh, one of my seniors and a current A-star scholar as well..and hers' were ALL scholarship interviews!
what's the point huh? just wana say that with my 'wealth' of experience with interviews..the NUS medical interview started off pretty poorly...with some stuttering and no-confidence whining, but at the end i managed to prevail with my thorough analysis of how my life has been geared for a career in medicine that i practically WOWed the 3 interviewers! Haha! I can never forget how the only lady interviewer said "Very good!" with a large grin at the end of the interview..geee it's either they are easily impressed or i dunno what..but to be truthful i'm still unsure whether medicine is my 2nd choice after all..........
wee! i love today! cos we've ippt training later and that means no ******** sorry confidential lar! :p seeya~ gtg rush my work now that i've wasted so much time here..

It's been a long break..
Watched X-men 2 on sat with weiliang, and also got the burned 98 2nd edition cd he brought. X-men was great! U shld go watch it if u have not; and the best thing was that I happened not to have watched X-men 1 before the sequel and it was good enough that I had to catch the first edition on TV the next day (Sun)
haha well well well but i still don't fancy the comic version, don't ask me why; i never had a fascination for comics unlike many of my peers.
well...gee i'mr eally waiting for 16may!! Yep u got it..it's the MATRIX RELOADED!!! It's gonna be PoWeR the way i see it...and the best thing's that 2 sequels are coming out within 6 months of each other so it means i won't forget what happened in the previous episode before i catch the upcoming one (which happened for LOTR for many of frens, the one year break made them forget much of the context of the original episode!) Actually i kinda forgot the original plot of the matrix already..hmm
yesterday (Monday) was my medicine interview..and i got to know Kimberley from RJC and Pamela from VJC..and one other guy from RJ whose name i did not manage to catch..haha. well anyway Kim's from band, and Pam's from guitar club and i'm from co so we were like...okay...so they divided us into teams based on our CCAs! Haha..which was very possible considering the other team beside comprised all the sports people! (canoeists esp..)
it was fun crapping with the 2 girls before i went into the seminar room for my session..calmed my nerves a bit (though Kimberley was noticeably nervous at her self-professed first and possibly last interview; it's both lucky and unlucky for her lah..i mean u lack the experience but at least ur nerves are not damaged/frayed repeatedly! :p)
